What to Expect.
A calm, considered walk-through of your visit — from the moment you arrive to when your report reaches your doctor.
Before your appointment
- Bring your referral, Medicare card, private health insurance details (if applicable), and any previous scans or reports on CD or as hard copies
- Arrive a few minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork
- Check your specific scan's page for fasting, hydration or clothing instructions — these vary by modality
- Free on-site parking is available at Stockland Point Cook
During your appointment
When you arrive, our reception team will check you in and confirm your details. Wait times are generally short, and we'll let you know if there are any delays. Your radiographer or sonographer will explain the procedure before it begins and will be with you throughout to answer any questions.
After your appointment
Your images will be reviewed by one of our specialist radiologists, and a written report will be sent directly to your referring doctor. In most cases, your doctor will contact you to discuss the results, or you may have a follow-up appointment already scheduled. If you have questions in the meantime, you're welcome to contact us.
Understanding scan anxiety
It's completely normal to feel nervous before a scan — whether it's fear of the unknown, concern about what the results might show, or specific worries like enclosed spaces (common with MRI) or needles (common with contrast injections). You're not alone, and there's no need to feel embarrassed about it.
A few things that can help:
Tell us in advance. If you know you find a particular scan stressful, let our team know when you book.
Bring support. Where possible, you're welcome to bring someone with you for support before and after your scan.
Ask questions. No question is too small. Understanding what's happening often reduces anxiety.
Breathing techniques. Slow, steady breathing (in for 4 seconds, hold for 4, out for 4) can help calm nerves.
Music or headphones. For scans like MRI we have special headphones and you can choose music to help you relax.
Accessibility & support
Our clinic is wheelchair accessible with step-free access. If you require an interpreter, have a disability, or need any additional support to attend your appointment comfortably, please let us know when you book so we can make the right arrangements.
Children's imaging
We welcome young patients and take extra care to explain each step in a way that helps children feel comfortable and calm during their visit. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay with their child throughout the appointment where clinically appropriate.
