Ultrasound
Real-time imaging using sound waves — safe, painless, and radiation-free.
What is an ultrasound?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of organs, tissues and blood flow. It doesn't use radiation, making it a safe option for a wide range of patients, including during pregnancy.
What it's used for
- Abdominal and pelvic conditions
- Pregnancy monitoring
- Musculoskeletal injuries (tendons, muscles, joints)
- Vascular studies (blood flow, clots)
- Guiding certain injections and biopsies
How to prepare
Preparation depends on the type of ultrasound. Some scans (such as abdominal or pelvic ultrasounds) require a full bladder or fasting beforehand — we'll give you specific instructions when you book.
What to expect
A clear gel is applied to your skin, and a handheld probe (transducer) is gently moved over the area being examined. Most ultrasounds take between 10 and 20 minutes and are painless.
Results
Reports are sent to your referring doctor promptly.
