Heart Health Screening.
Understanding your cardiovascular risk, before symptoms appear.
What is heart health screening?
Heart health screening uses imaging — such as a CT coronary calcium score — to look for early signs of coronary artery disease before symptoms develop, helping you and your doctor understand your cardiovascular risk and make informed decisions about prevention and treatment.
What it's used for
- Assessing your risk of heart disease, particularly with risk factors such as family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking history, or diabetes
- Providing additional information alongside a GP heart health check
- Guiding decisions about lifestyle changes or preventive treatment
How to prepare
Preparation requirements depend on the specific scan. Our team will provide detailed instructions when you book — this may include avoiding caffeine and following specific medication guidance.
What to expect
A CT coronary calcium score is a quick CT scan, usually only a few minutes, requiring you to lie still while the scan is taken. It uses a low dose of radiation.
Cost and Medicare
Unlike lung cancer screening, heart health / coronary calcium scoring is not routinely bulk billed under Medicare in all circumstances. Please contact us to confirm current rebate eligibility and any gap fee for your situation.
Results
Reports are sent to your referring doctor promptly, to discuss what your results mean for your ongoing care.
